Propagation is the act of reproducing plants for the purpose of commercial production. Many plants that are propagated are dioecious. This means that their plant's species has an individual male and female plant. These species of plants require an androecious (male) plant and a gynoecious (female) plant in order to reproduce. The male plant produces and releases pollen that in turn pollenates the female flower to produce seed. This is what completes the circle of life for plants. In an indoor world you have total control over this. If you are growing a species for its flowers and you do not want them to seed, you simply buy all female stock to grow. You could also grow a plant from seed and sex it. Once you determine it is female, you can grow it as a "mother" plant. Once it has enough size to it you can take cuttings of this plant. All of the cuttings will be exact genetic replicas of the mother. The products shown here offer two different methods of propagation. One is for taking cuttings and rooting them. The other is for micropropagation, or plant tissue culture and is a little more advanced.
